Rosanna Catterall個展
ーRhapsody on a theme of Baseball in C Major 狂詩曲 ハ長調 野球ー

The videos shown in this exhibition are projected onto screens that represent symbols taken from the baseball pitch; the ‘homeplate’ and ‘infield’. The videos consider the preparative side of sport through documenting baseball practice and the preparation of a baseball ground before a game. The moving images are paired with sound work that takes form in a score written for the drums through the framework of hitting 210 baseballs at a batting centre; a hit is a snare note, a miss is a bass note, a foul is a hi- hat note. With this rhythm as the sonic backdrop, the ritualistic and repetitive nature of the preparation for a sport is accentuated.


展示作品の概略
今回の展示に投影される映像作品は野球の誰もが知る「ホームプレート」と「内野」。
作品はバッティングセンターで２１０球を打つ中、そのスコアに対し音と連動するシステムを作っています。
例えばヒットはドラム音のハイハットのノートビートで表され、空振りはドラム音スネアのベーズ音など。
音響を背景としてスポーツがリズミカルな反復性を強調する儀式となります。

Rosanna Catterall was born in 1990 in the UK and graduated from Falmouth School of Art in 2012. She is currently living and working in Sapporo and is based at Tenjinyama Art Studios. Her work is grounded in an open enquiry into the nature of practice, preparation, waiting, failure, and non-conclusion. The structures of tennis and baseball become vehicles for encountering practice. These investigations usually manifest in moving image and sound works.
